Producer's  Statement: A Place in the Dark is a film about survival of the body, the mind, and the spirit in the face of domestic violence, drug addiction, and mental illness. These struggles often live in silence, isolating those who endure them. I wanted audiences to step inside that darkness, to feel the fear, the weight of consequences, and the fight to reclaim one’s power. The characters’ choices are not simple ones; they are driven to breaking points that force them to confront uncomfortable truths about agency, desperation, and redemption. Film has a unique power to move people beyond statistics and reports. It allows us to step inside someone else’s pain, to sit with their fear and their hope, and to leave changed. My goal was to create a story that doesn’t just inform but compels; a story that can spark conversation, inspire compassion, and encourage action. If A Place in the Dark helps even one person recognize the signs of abuse or extend grace to someone battling addiction or mental illness, then it has done its work.
